Terry Frost’s preoccupation with colour involved a considerable amount of creative invention at the start of his painting career, in the drab grey confines of the Nazi POW camp in which he was interned in the 1940s.
Sourcing pigments for reds and blues came thanks to deconstructing items dropped from Red Cross air-drops, a marked contrast to the myriad of expensive Italian paints he bequeathed to the artistic offspring after his passing away. Yet works such as Black and White remind us of his master in terms of form and composition.
